Described by his family and friends as a “voracious hiker” Matt takes every opportunity to explore the great outdoors and having Northern California as his backyard provides for endless hiking and backpacking trips. Many of Matt's photos highlight backpacking and day hike trips into numerous National Parks (Yosemite, Sequoia, Death Valley, Joshua Tree) and many other awe-inspiring places (Sierra Nevadas, Lake Tahoe / Desolation Wilderness Region, Santa Cruz Mountains, and the Cascade Mountains).

In addition to photography, Matt is an avid skier, a drummer of 17 years, and has recently started surfing.
